In Chennai, we find many people travel by metro trains these days and they prefer metro trains over others as their mode of transport for certain reasons. The sensational information is since the month of June in the year 2015 more than 3.8 crores passengers has taken this Chennai metro to reach their places of destination.

It must not be forgotten that on 29th June in 2015 first metro train service was started on the 8 km stretch between Koyambedu and Alandur. In the initial stages, only 8000 to 9000 people travelled in metro trains in Chennai. Now in 2019, with the commissioning of 45 km Phase-1, more than 95,000 people travel by metro trains every day and that is remarkable. The metro train daily patronage has increased ten folds now and this has caught the attention of many.

An official belonging to CMRL explained about how many stations have mini buses, share autos and share cars. He added that such services would soon be extended in all the 32 metro stations belonging to the Chennai. By this extension of services, the average number of people taking metro trains would cross 1 lakh in a day.

The surprising piece of news is in the month of April the daily ridership touched one lakh. It is now said that the average number of people travelling by metro everyday continues to be 95,000. The fact that the ridership had grown gradually from the time since the metro train system was implemented shows the popularity of these metro trains. It must be taken into account that in the months of June and December 2015 the ridership was 26 lakhs and between the months of January and May 2019 the ridership recorded one crore passengers. This Chennai metro is rapid transit system and is the third largest metro system in our country after Delhi metro and Hyderabad metro is known.
