Unsafe drinking water cans in Chennai, suburbs seized by Food safety officials

In a recent incident, the unsafe drinking water cans being distributed in the Chennai Metro City and its suburbs have been seized.
The reports in this regard mention that the food safety officials raided water purifying units in Kolathur, Velacherry and Koyambedu and seized cans for not being filled in a hygienic manner and other issues.
Further, around 500 cans of water were seized near the Koyambedu Metro station for not being up to the standard. The officials found that the cans and the water were sub-standard, or they did not have proper seals.
It is a well-known fact that in these days of water crisis in Chennai and the suburbs, people have to depend more and more on can water for their drinking water and cooking needs. This leads to the supply of water cans in large numbers which is a rather booming business.
