In the congested stretches in Chennai, multi-level car parking lots planned

There are many congested stretches in the Chennai city. It is now revealed that Chennai city and its suburbs would get multi-level car parking lots along with the congested stretches having inadequate parking spaces. On Tuesday, 23rd April 2019, meeting was held and in that meeting officials of Chennai Corporation and other line agencies made their presence felt.

The important point is after this meeting, work on identification of locations that are suitable for the development of the multi-level car parking has begun. It is said that the local administration officials belonging to the suburban areas would also start identification of suitable locations. For setting up of multi-level parking lots, land parcels of Chennai Corporation and the land owned by the government departments would be identified.

It was pointed out by an official belonging to Chennai Corporation that lands given by individuals to Chennai Corporation in the congested areas would also be traced. He threw light on how many parcels of land in congested areas have been grabbed by some persons.

The information collected is on Monday the draft final report of the Comprehensive Mobility Plan by CMDA has also pointed out the need for developing multi-level car parking lots. An official spoke about how the provision of mass parking facilities should not always be the norm. To make the commercial areas accessible for the pedestrians, mass parking facilities were required and it formed the basis of the proposal.

He cited examples like the proposal for multi-level car parking lots in places like T. Nagar, George Town etc and said the proposals are linked into pedestrianisation in such commercial areas. In the draft final report of the Comprehensive Mobility Plan as many as 22 locations were mentioned and the civic agencies have begun their studies.

Important point is a parcel of land on Bharathi Salai in Triplicane would accommodate as many as 330 cars and Chennai Central would get multi-level parking lot for 270 cars. As many as 300 cars would be accommodated in the multi-level parking lot near Ega Theater in Kilpauk.

The superb piece of news is there are plans to set up parking spaces in Chetpet for 325 cars, Saidapet Metro for 320 cars, Mandaveli MRTS for 200 cars, Anna Nagar Round tana for 330 cars and Nungambakkam Sterling Road for 400 cars. For accommodating more than 700 cars, suburbs like Tambaram and Chromepet would also get multilevel parking lots.
