One of the highly popular places for relaxing in the Chennai city is Marina Beach. In this Marina Beach many statues of great personalities are present on the 3.2 km stretch from Light House to the labour statue is well known. The important point is the people visiting this beach would be surprised to see the bilingual display boards installed under the government of Indias Swadesh Darshan Scheme for tourist destinations.

Now Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC has joined hands with the tourism department and have installed these bilingual display boards at the cost of Rs 60,000. By this the visitors would be able to know important information about the personalities.

It must be noted that under the statue of Veera-Ma-Munivar the information that is present would surprise many visitors. Many of us are unaware of the fact that he learnt Tamil language only after coming to India in the 18th century. The amazing piece of information about him is he had compiled a dictionary in Tamil plus introduced grammar for the proper usage of Tamil.

The visitors expressed their happiness about this new idea of GCC as they would be able to know more information about the famous personalities now. One visitor who was reading the board near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi spoke about how more information on great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi could be useful for many. He added that the present generation children who do not know much about the leaders of the past would be able to know more about the great personalities now.

An official belonging to GCC revealed about how 27 such bilingual display boards were installed as a part of larger project with 14 components. He threw light on the construction of toilet block, 4 drinking water kiosks plus others like 3 first aid kiosks, open gym, 15 sea viewing galleries with seating facilities etc.
