CBSE by laws make NCERT books optional

The education system is left perplexed without knowing whether schools should make NCERT textbooks mandatory. And the private publishers get the optimum use of the scenario.

Across schools in different regions, the academic year 2019-20 has already begun. But still, the UT Education department has not clarified about the textbooks – neither has the Central Board of Secondary Education sorted out this issue.

Dating 29th May 2018, the Madras High Court had rolled out a judgement where CBSE affiliated schools were told to follow NCERT books. Contrarily, the bylaws from the CBSE board dated 18th October 2018 says NCERT books may be insisted for classes, however care should be taken in order to pick private publishers’ books without any content that is irrelevant or controversial without hitting the beliefs or feelings of different communities and classes across different religions.

Furthermore, the official school website shall contain consolidated list of prescribed books along with manager’s declaration.

The High Court has rolled out an order in this regard which states that there prevails a different facet in this regard between private book publishers and NCERT.
