According to a new study, it is said that those who cut down on the carbohydrate intake may have shorter lifespan. The study conducted by researchers in the USA involved analyzing 25,000 Americans. Of this, 25% of them were made to eat lesser carbohydrates in their diet which made them highly prone to death in the following 6 years with the most common reasons being heart diseases or stroke or cancer.

Results of the study got published at the annual meeting of European Society of Cardiology in Munich, Germany.

The study however does not throw light on the cause or effects of reducing carbohydrate intake.

By saying low carb diet, it means consuming more protein of meat and dairy items, and lesser fruits and grains and veggies. To say it precisely, keto diet and Atkins diet are the ones involving lesser carbohydrate intake.

It is to be noted that there were earlier studies that linked diets of high carbohydrate levels and low carbohydrate levels with the risk of death, says an expert dietician, Connie Diekman. This study  claims that people who had medium level of carbohydrate will have longer, healthier life.

It is also to be noted that these studies do not correlate longevity and carbohydrate intake.
