British Council hosts Human Library where people can read humans like books

Posted on: 05/Apr/2019 7:05:37 PM
Chennai, April 7, 2019: British Council Library is gradually becoming the epicentre of various diverse discussions and incubation centre for ideas that people would want to deliberate further. It is a place where people can have evolved conversations and thought-provoking discussions.

In line with this endeavour, the British Council along with the Human Library Chennai are hosting one of the most unique sessions in the country called the Human Library. The Human Library event will witness interactive sessions where audience (readers) can read people like the way they read books – by listening to the inspiring and path-breaking stories of these human books and asking them questions to know more about their experiences.

The human books in this library are people who have experienced prejudices in the society and have fought them to be who they are. The idea of this library is to allow these books (people) to share their stories and allow the readers to widen their perspectives while listening and relating to their experiences. Around ten human books will narrate their life stories to the readers that will motivate and inspire readers in Chennai.

Human Library was first developed in Copenhagen, Denmark in the year 2000 as a project which eventually became really popular amongst several audiences. Since then, more than 70 countries have adopted the program. Each story in itself is unique and has witnessed victory eventually. The joint aim of British Council and Human Library Chennai is to create a positive environment for conversations that can challenge prejudices. British Council had earlier hosted the Human Library in the year 2017 as well.
