DMK Announces List Of Lok Sabha Constituencies Allotted To Self, Allies

The parliamentary elections are scheduled to be conducted on 18th April in Tamil Nadu. It is worth noting that the 2 major political parties in Tamil Nadu (DMK and AIADMK) are facing the elections for the 1st time with the prominent leaders not available anymore (Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa). So, there are excited expectations. Both the parties are in a situation where they are constrained to win. So, the talks regarding alliances with other parties having concluded, the alliances have been fixed. Both the parties have invited applications from interested candidates and completed conducting the interviews.

As for DMK, out of the total 40 seats for the parliament, Congress gets 10, MDMK – 1, Communist parties - 2 each, Indian Union Muslim League – 1, Indian Democratic Party -1, and Kongu Nadu National Peoples Pary -1. DMK contests in the balance 20 seats. With the discussions regarding the allotment of constituencies/seats having concluded, DMK has officially released the list of candidates:

  • DMK will contest in the following consitituencies – Chennai North, Chennai South, Chennai Central, Sriperumpudhur, Kanchipuram, Arakonam, Vellore, Dharmapuri, Thiruvannamalai, Dindigul, Thanjavur, Kallakurichi, Salem, Nilgiri, Pollachi, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Thoothukudi, Thenkasi, and Tirunelveli  - Total – 20seats.
  • Congress will contest in the following constituencies: Thiruvallur, Theni, Sivagangai, Virudhunagar, Karur, Krishnagiri, Aarani, Trichy, Kanyakumari, and Puducherry. – Total – 10 seats.
  • MDMK – Erode
  • Marxist Communist Party – Coimbatore and Madurai
  • Indian Communist Party – Tirupur, Nagappattinam
  • Indian Muslim League – Ramanthapuram
  • VCK – Villupuram, Chidambaram
  • Kongu National Peoples party  - Namakkal
  • IJK – Perambalur

Thus, DMK is contesting 20 parliamentary seats and the other alliance members together share the balance 20 seats. Stalin also announced that the list of the DMK candidates will be released on 17th March.
