PG Medical Counselling to begin on March 15

Starting from 15th March, counselling for PG medical courses in deemed universities, ESIC, AFMC, central universities, etc. shall begin, as per latest issue by the Directorate General of health Services.

For the online counselling, registrations will get open from 15th March. on 27, results of first counselling session will get released. On 5th April, the 2nd round of the process will start. And on 12th April, results shall get announced. Under all-India quota, there is not going to be any round-3. For central and deemed and ESIC colleges, mop up rounds are to be conducted. 

Seats that are left vacant will be returned to states, and counselling for these seats will take place on 22nd April. For the remaining universities, mop up is scheduled for 27th May. By 31st May, stray vacancy sessions will get over.

The exact date of counselling for the state is awaiting announcement from the Directorate of Medical Education. Once the Health Department rolls out its nod regarding incentive marks towards in-service candidates, the exact date will get announced.

For doctors working in hilly areas and remote areas, incentives are to be given, according to instructions from committee headed by A Selvam, retired judge. This incentive will be extra of 30 percent marks from their PG NEET scores. This is a governments recommendation. It can be put to effect if and only if the state health department gives its approval, says Dr. A Edwin Joe, the director of medical education.

According to reports from the National Board of Education summary, 11,121 of the qualified individuals out of the total 79,633 is from Tamil Nadu. To note, the state totally had 17,067 candidates who took up the exam. From Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, the total attendees count to 9,219, 7,441 and 6,323 respectively. While getting qualified in the exam doesnt indicate guaranteed seats, according to educationalists, TN candidates top with maximum numbers. This gives them more chances of getting admitted in premium colleges and increases their possibility of getting government college seats in TN.

On Thursday, the board of governors in suspension, Medical Council of India has approved the directorate of medical education to transform 384 out of the total number of 396 PG diploma seats as PG degree seats. Furthermore, the state has also got permission to kick-start 124 PG degree courses spread in 14 state-run medical colleges. So there will be 1,758 post graduate seats in government medical colleges by 2019.
