At 5 Chennai bus depots, charging points for electric buses to be present

Pollution has been increasing day by day and people struggle from the effects of pollution. Many steps are being taken to overcome pollution is known. In Chennai city, the state government is trying its best to bring down pollution and in this regard electric buses or e-buses would be introduced. It is now revealed that the transport department’s proposal to introduce air-conditioned electric buses has made some progress.
The point is MTC or metropolitan transport corporation is providing broad outline on the infrastructure needed for charging the electric buses. It is important to note that being signatory to Clean Bus Declaration or C-40, the state government wants to reduce the pollution in Chennai city by launching electric buses. In the first phase as many as 100 electric buses would be introduced at cost of Rs 2 crore each. The information collected was MTC would get 80 buses and Coimbatore city would get 20 buses.
Facilities such as charging hubs, power network are very important and the C-40 representatives had discussions with various stakeholders belonging to the transport department. It is known that the representatives visited Adyar bus depot and inspected the depots to check the availability of above mentioned facilities. The important piece of news is soon in 5 depots in Chennai there would be charging points for the electric buses. These bus depots are central bus depot at Pallavan Salai, Anna Nagar, Poonamallee, Adyar and Perumbakkam bus depots.
An official explained about how the MTC has not yet come up with the blueprint on the necessary output of energy that is needed for installing the charging stations. In the month of June in 2017 transport minister, Mr. M. R. Vijayabhaskar, took part in the trial run of an electric bus manufactured by Ashok Leyland at the Central bus depot. In the back drop of invitation from C-40 team, the transport minister and other officials of the transport department visited London in the month of September in 2018 is known. They inspected the operation of the electric buses in London. To know about the infrastructural facilities needed for bringing electric buses to Chennai city, the transport minister visited the electric bus depot.
