Central government to amend the Information Technology Act

Posted on: 26/Dec/2018 12:17:24 PM
In order to maintain a better monitoring/check on the popular social networking media such as WhatsApp and Facebook, the central government is set to make some amendments in the Information Technology Act.

As per the amendment, it would be the responsibility of the above social networking media to keep the priority on the country’s sovereignty, security, and public peace to keep strict monitoring on ‘fake news’ items and remove them within 24 hours. Thus, the social networking media companies will bear the responsibility to find the culprits who spread the fake news.

The social networking media must keep the fake news details for up to 180 days in order to carry out enquiries. In this regard, it is mandatory for these social networking media to cooperate with government-appointed agencies for conducting the enquiries.

It is worth noting that the central government has asked for the response/feedback/suggestions from the social networking media such as WhatsApp and FaceBook in this regard.
