State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) announced the reduction in the overall bus fares for air-conditioned sleeper buses, non AC sleeper buses and Ultra classic (toilet) buses. SETC slashed the ticket cost by ten percent that will make weekday travel more convenient in terms of financial aspect of the travelers. The ticket revision was effective from Thursday applicable for the days between Monday and Thursday. The price comes down from Rs 140 to Rs 70 per tickets for all the services.

Sources frim SETC mentioned the ticket fares of AC buses reduced from Rs 2 per km to Rs 1.8 per km in the weekdays as per the new norms. Across the year the commuters can enjoy the reduced fares for the weekday travel between Monday and Thursday. While the new fare reduces the ticket fare burden the prices will remain same for the days of Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Poor patronage of new buses was considered to be one of the main reasons for the overall reduction says the sources of SETC. Many buses have been cancelled frequently that starts the travel from Koyambedu to other interstate destinations. Long distance buses had a limited occupancy for many number of months and so the reduction move from SETC expects more number of people filling the seats for all services in weekdays.

AC sleeper buses connects Chennai with other southern zones such as with Madurai, Tirunelveli, Sivakasi, Bodi, Gobichettipalayam, Keezhkarai, Bengaluru, Salem, Ernakulam and Thoothukudi. A big number of commuters use the bus services to and fro the mentioned cities of Tamil Nadu and it is one of the main revenue for the government in terms of people transportation. The price revision will encourage more number of bookings in weekdays equating the earlier loss and poor planning of the schedules.
