As there have been persistent rains in the southern states, the arrival of vegetables from other states to the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market has reduced leading to an increase in price.

With the onset of the Northeast Monsoon rainy season, it has been raining in several states. This has affected the quantum of vegetables being transported from these states to Koyambedu. Usually, 400 trucks arrive from the other states, The traders inform that presently, only 350 trucks are arriving.

Further, as many families have led to other places to celebrate Deepavali in their native places with 4 successive holidays,  the business or sales is rather dull.

Potato, which was sold at Rs. 25 per kg last month, is now sold at Rs. 30 per kg. Carrot, which sold at Rs. 50 per kg, is now sold at Rs. 60 per kg. Radish, which sold at Rs. 35 per kg, is now sold at Rs. 40 per kg.

Ujala brinjal, snake gourd, and beans, which sold at Rs. 30 per kg, is now sold at Rs. 40 per kg. Ginger, which sold at Rs. 80 per kg, is now sold at Rs. Rs. 90 per kg. Coconut, which sold at Rs. 30 per piece, is now sold at Rs. 35 per piece.

However, the vegetables have tended to arrive at Koyambedu from other states as usual. So, even if the price of some vegetables has gone up, most other vegetables are sold at the same price.
