Demand for electric power down due to festive successive holidays

Posted on: 19/Oct/2018 11:30:07 AM
With the Navratri festive season coming to a conclusion with successive holidays, the demand for electric power has reduced. Though it is the rainy season in Tamil Nadu presently, the demand for electric power in the mornings and evenings is around 13000 MW daily. During the other times, the demand is 12500 MW.

The cyclone Titli, formed a few days ago, crossed the Odisha coast and during that period, the electric towers in Odisha carrying power to be transmitted to Tamil Nadu were severely damaged and hence the power supply 1000 MW daily to Tamil Nadu was disrupted.

Hence, TANGEDCO faced problems to tackle the power demand. However, in this situation, successive holidays (Ayudha Pooja, Vijayadasami) have occurred and the demand for electric power has reduced to 11000 MW daily. This development has relieved TANGEDCO from the problem to a certain extent.
