As per the centuries-old tradition, the grand festival of Ayudha Pooja as the concluding part of the Navaratri festival is being celebrated today (Thursday, 18th October) in a grand manner with verve and enthusiasm.

On this occasion, the Police Commissioner, A. K. Viswanathan has ordered to arrange extensive security and also to conduct frequent checking in the open public active areas. The details:

‘It is a centuries-old tradition for the public residents and the traders of shops, offices, and the commercial establishments to celebrate the occasion of Ayudha Pooja to break pumpkins in the middle of the road (as a symbol of the prayer/pooja and to weed the evil spirits away.

However, this tradition leaves the road with the extremely risky possibilities of causing major accidents for the vehicle drivers sometimes leading even to the loss of lives.

So, the police department and the traffic department humbly requests the public and the traders/residents to totally refrain from breaking pumpkins in the middle of the road.
