Facility for digital electricity bill payment in smart cities

In order to prevent the various malpractices presently rampant in the procedure for collection of the electricity bill payment, The central government has ordered that all Electricity Boards must adopt and implement digital transactions with the use of credit/debit cards.
However, most of the consumers still continue to pay by cash.
In this situation, under the ‘smart city’ plan, the central government has insisted all the electricity boards must collect electricity bill payments only through digital transactions in 12 city corporations including Chennai and Coimbatore.
A TANGEDCO official explained in this regard that the ‘smart city’ project activities have been started and are in the initial stages of progress in all the city corporations. Once they are completed, the electricity bill collection will also be in completely in digital mode.
