This plan by the CMRL for the sake of many residents is sensational

There are many people living along the metro rail phase-2 alignment in Chennai. The latest news that has come out is CMRL is planning to cut down on private property that is needed for 107.55 km segment by up to 25 percent. This would benefit many residents. To reduce the space required, CMRL would be tweaking the design so that smaller stations would be constructed and systems would be installed in a compact way. In the middle of the year 2019, tenders for construction would be floated.
Mr. Pankaj Kumar Bansal, managing director of CMRL, expressed his views at the valedictory function of a photo exhibition at Vadapalani metro station. He spoke about how in the phase-2 land acquisition would be reduced by one-third or one-fourth. The plan might be ambitious but would be carried out by making changes in the design. He hinted that there would not be any change in the alignment. He later explained that in phase-1 extension initially there were plans to acquire 90,000 sqm of private land and how it was reduced to 40,000sqm. For this reduction, systems were shifted in the stations plus the dimensions of the station were reduced.
For the construction of 50 km line along the corridors 3 and 5, CMRL has identifled10.55 sqkm of private and government property and notices were given to 800 property owners. Mr. Pankaj Kumar Bansal then threw light on the presence of many private properties in places like Purasawalkam, Doveton and Perambur and said the plans to minimize the land acquisition are on the cards.
He also explained about the simultaneous work of designing of the alignment, acquisition of land and soil test that took place when CMRL started its preliminary work for phase-2. The main objective of CMRL was to reduce the area to be acquired. The above mentioned processes were not done as mentioned above for phase-1. By the end of the year 2018, CMRL might open the remaining portions of phase-1 that would also include the line of the popular Anna Salai. By the end of the September, trial runs with metro trains from Washermenpet to AG-DMS would begin.
There would be 2 more entry points at the Central metro plus a pedestrian subway would also be opened by the end of 2018. By the middle of September, electrification of the Anna Salai line would be completed and electrifications at places like Washermenpet, High Court and Mannadi would be over by this week .These were also confirmed by the managing director.
