Getting cold is very common and we all would have suffered from this cold issue. The seasons are also responsible for getting cold and we get cold during winter as well during monsoon seasons. Rhinovirus is responsible for the majority of this cold issue. Cold could also be due to coronavirus, respiratory syncytial virus, influenza virus etc. The parts of our body that are affected during cold are throat, sinuses and larynx. After getting exposed to the virus, the signs and symptoms of this cold appear in us. Some of the symptoms are running nose, cough, sore throat, headache, fever etc. People usually recover from cold in a week or in ten days of time.

There are few things we do without realising that these could increase our chances of getting cold and they are

Not washing our hands:

This is one important reason for getting cold often and many might not be aware of this. Washing our hands with soap and water is a must. When we don’t do this we get cold every single time. To make our hands free from germs the hands must be washed for 20 seconds minimum.

Touching our face regularly:

Many have this habit of touching their faces frequently and this might result in cold and sickness. It is well known fact that our hands are contaminated with bacteria as we touch many things every day. Without knowing when we touch our face frequently this would make us fall sick. The cold viruses enter our body through eyes, mouth and nose and by constantly touching these we get affected by cold frequently.

Not consuming enough water:

It is essential that we must drink enough water to stay hydrated. Many of us do not drink enough water due to some reasons and this could cause dehydration in us. This dehydration in turn affects the immune system and makes us prone to cold and sick. By consuming enough water flushing out of the germs from the body is achieved.

Frequent travelling:

Most of us travel frequently to many places for our work etc. This could result in getting cold often as washing our hands would not be possible. The air quality also leads to getting cold. For those who do regular desk job getting affected by cold is more as they would be in contact with the affected persons more.

Not exercising often:

Exercise is important for our good health is known. There are many who do not exercise often and cold attacks them frequently.  The studies have shown that our salivary immunoglobulin A IgA levels get increased by exercising. This antibody present in the mucus plays a huge role in proper functioning of our immune system.
