Chennai rains reappear, maximums reduce by 12 degrees in an hour

Monsoon has made an onset over the state of Tamil Nadu. In fact, Southwest Monsoon has also covered Chennai. However, rains remained absent from Chennai. Though, the interior and southern districts of Tamil Nadu have been recording good rains.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Salem recorded rain to the tune of 23 mm, followed by Karaikal at 15.8 mm, Tiruchirapalli 1.6 mm, Kanyakumari 0.8 mm and Connor 0.2 mm or rains.

As per Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation which is over Coastal Andhra Pradesh is also affecting North Coastal parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai. Thunderclouds have already built up over the state and in fact, Chennai rains have begun over some parts. Moreover, between 2 pm and 3 pm, the day temperatures have fallen by 12C with the commencement of Chennai rains and overcast sky conditions.

This is the first good spell after March 17. Though, very light rain of 0.1 mm made an appearance on June 3.

Now we expect few sharp spells of thundershower in various locations of Chennai and adjoining regions to continue. These rainfall activities are likely to continue over another 48 hours. However, the showers will not be continuous and would occur in patches.

Chennai rains will mostly occur during the early morning or late afternoon and evening hours. Though the temperatures would rise tomorrow marginally, however, the weather conditions will be comfortable will mainly overcast.
