Southern Railways mechanical department gets Best Department Shield in Chennai

With its headquarters in Chennai, southern railways have been doing superbly is well known. This news would make many employees belonging to southern railways proud and happy.
The latest piece of news that has come out now is the mechanical department of this southern railway has got the best department shield for Indian Railways for the year 2017-18.
On Monday, 16th April 2018, 63rd railway week celebrations took place in the city of Bhopal. In this event the minister for railways Mr. Piyush Goyal attracted the attention of many when he gave award to general manager of southern railways Mr. R.L. Kulshreshtha and chief workshop engineer Mr. Shishir Dutt. It is superb that efficiency of coach maintenance has improved due to the steps taken by the mechanical department of the southern railways.
The passengers have appreciated the introduction of OBHS or on board housekeeping services in as many as 85 trains. It must be noted that 2 dedicated laundries have been set up in places such as Basin Bridge and Kochuveli to wash linen of AC class passengers.
There are 6229 coaches and bio-toilets have been fitted by railways in 65% of the coaches. This is the highest amongst 16 zones in India.
Upgrading of 2 coaches in Chennai Central- Mysuru-Chennai Shatabdi Express, Chennai Central-Coimbatore- Chennai Central Shatabdi Express have been carried out to provide better service to high class passengers under Swarn project.
Prestigious 5 Star Label and National Award for Energy Efficiency from Bureau of Energy Efficiency of Union Ministry of Power were received by GOC or Golden Rock Workshop in Trichy.
