Recital on Sri Lalita, a margam based on Sri Lailita Sahasranamam

Sri Lalita, a margam based on Sri Lailita Sahasranamam, was beautifully performed by Smt. Gayatri Krishnaveni Lakshmanan, Founder of Krishnadhwani School of Natya under the auspices of Brahma Gana Sabha Arts Festival. Kavignar Piraisoodan was the Guest of Honour.

The performance was a humble offering to the Padaambuyam (lotus feet) of Sri Rajarajeshwari and extols the glory of Sri Lolita Tripurasundari as Akhilandeshwari-Vignaraja Janani, Kanchi Kamakshi, Thirukkadaiyur Annai Abirami, Guruguhaamba and Sadasivakutumbini (Soundarya lahari). 

Smt. Gayatri Krishnaveni Lakshmanan said “It is great privilege and blessing to perform on these compositions. I dedicate this to my mother and Guru Krishnaveni Amma and also other gurus who have taught me the ways of an honest life. This is an offering to the supreme bliss Sri Lalitambika.”

Gayatri Krishnaveni is one of the senior dancers in Chennai Bharatanatyam scene. Gayatri has had intensive training in Bharatanatyam, Carnatic Vocal and Instrumental Veena at Kalakshetra. She has had the special guidance of Gurus S. Sharada, Sarada Hoffman and Prof. N. S. Jayalakshmi. She has travelled all over the world, enthralling the audience with her captivating stage presence and novel performances. She is also well trained in folk dances of India and Kalaripayattu Martial Art form of Kerala, special Karanas course under Dr. Padma Subramanian.

She is an A grade artist of the Doordarshan Kendra. Gayatri has been involved with various NGO’s and is passionate about teaching dance to the underprivileged Children. She also does dance therapy at the Children`s Cancer Institute Chennai. Gayatri has been a regular participant for Jana Bharatam organised by Anma Jyothi which takes dancing to the local corporation schools. She has been acclaimed for her social themes like Leprosy, Cancer and Aids awareness, child abuse and gender equality performances. She has also been entitled with many awards namely Yuva Kala Bharathi, Bharat Kalachar, TS Parthasarathy Award, Balasaraswathi endowment award etc.
