Moderate Chennai rains to continue on Tuesday, to reduce after 24 hours

The month of November began on a rainy note for Chennai. The city and adjoining coastal stations of Tamil Nadu have been witnessing rains since then. Though rains took a break in between, but a fresh spell of rain returned Chennai on November 12.

Since then, rains have taken a front seat over Chennai once again. During the past day, moderate rain occurred over Chennai and nearby coastal areas. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am On Monday, Nungambakkam observatory in Chennai has recorded 30 mm of rain, Minambakkam observatory 16 mm, Madurai 13 mm, Pamban 62 mm, Salem 3 mm and Puducherry 1 mm.

These rains can be attributed to a well-marked low-pressure area that has now moved in a northerly direction and now lies over West Central Bay of Bengal near South Andhra coast. As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, the weather system is moving a northerly direction away from Tamil Nadu coast.

Therefore, it is anticipated that one or two moderate spells of rain are likely over many parts of Chennai today. However, gradually the intensity of rains will further decrease and by November 15 we expect only light rain or drizzle over the Chennai and North Coastal Tamil Nadu.

Thereafter, the weather will remain partly cloudy to cloudy and isolated light rain may continue. Chennai has already surpassed its monthly average rainfall in the first 14 days of the month itself.
