Government to facilitate senior citizens in Aadhar linking

Posted on: 12/Oct/2017 4:32:28 PM
Senior citizens find it tough to link the mobile number with Aadhar. Hence, as a move to help them, the government is trying different methods where they are likely to launch iris scanning instead of fingerprints. Home visits will be made to senior citizens for simplifying the entire process and make it hassle-free.

The other method is proxy authorization where users can nominate another individual for verifying mobile Aadhar linkage, say reports.

Speaking about this Aruna Sundarajaan, the telecom secretary said they are trying to make things simpler. Older customers to whom biometric verification is difficult are their target. They have come up with simple measures for easing their pain, he adds.

This initiative follows reports that there are long queues seen outside mobile service providing outlets. This is making the process tough and challenging. The process is also complicated for all senior citizens.

According to the Lokniti Foundation case order imposed by the Supreme Court in February 2017, the government is directed to equip linking SIM cards with Aadhar cards by February 2018. Mobile numbers that are not linked with Aadhar card will get deactivated.

Further, the government is thinking of making use of online OTP to register mobile number with Aadhar based on Unique Identification Authority of India.
