Hone your skills or perish, says Nasscom

Hiring is still going on, says Nasscom, saying a clear no to the massive layoff that is complained about the IT sector. About 1.7 lakh jobs are added in 2016-17. Furthermore, it states that there is going to be 1.5 lakh hiring this year.

The report on mass layoff is rejected. There were 1.7 lakh candidates recruited in Financial year 2017 while during the 4th quarter, the total of 50,000 employees were hired by the top 5 major companies, said R. Chandrashekhar, the President of Nasscom.

He further explained that Nasscom has discussed with all its members that there is going to be no unemployment woes and that the sector will continue hiring this year.

Nasscom has clarified this amidst all the commotions and fear among employees about getting fired and said that re-skilling is the only way to continue their position in firms. The world is rapidly moving towards automation and digital services. So, employees should focus on re-skill or get sacked!

The sackings done were of very lesser number and these in turn were solely for the reason of poor performance appraisal, said Chandrashekhar. About 0.5 to 3 percent of the talent pool gets hit by the performance-linked workforce. This year, there is no change in this regard.
