Stop selling textbooks at CBSE schools, orders board

Posted on: 21/Apr/2017 3:31:50 PM
Shut down all shops selling stationery, uniforms, shoes, textbooks, schoolbags and other similar articles at Central Board of Secondary Education and all the affiliated schools across India.

On Thursday, the board has orders strict complying with the affiliation bye laws. They should not get indulged in any commercial activities, the board has ordered. This is also inclusive of sales by selected vendors.

This is a move that aims at making all the schools meet the NCERT textbooks. A new link is created for schools where they can raise demands for this year textbooks.

Parents and stakeholders are complaining that the schools are selling textbooks, and other articles right within the school premises in spite of asking not to sell. There are many complaints we receive, reads the CBSE circular. R.K. Chaturvedi, the Chairperson of CBSE says schools should strictly comply with this.

We are taking serious view in this regard. The schools should stop such unhealthy practice of cornering parents to buy textbooks from their school or only at selected vendors.

The board stresses that the schools should follow the circular issued on 12th April 2016 for NCERT or CBSE textbooks.
