Rains To Continue In Kerala; Tamil Nadu To Brace For Dry Weather

Posted on: 21/Mar/2017 6:18:37 PM
Intermittent rains have been showing up in parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu from quite a few days thereby eliminating the elongated dry spell. However, if a few initial days of March are excluded, both the states have remained almost dry since February.

During the last 24 hours also, light to moderate downpour had been recorded over parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. In a span of last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, K. Paramathi and Coonoor districts of Tamil Nadu witnessed rainfall of 31 mm and 20.9 mm respectively.

During the similar time frame, various districts of Kerala also recorded light showers. Punalur witnessed 12.6 mm of rains, Kochi 3 mm, Palakkad 4 mm, Udhagamandalam 5 mm, and Coimbatore also recorded a few rainy traces.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these showers can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which was over the northern parts of West Bengal. Moreover, a trough was also extending from this system up to Tamil Nadu across Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

However, now the trough is weakening and is gradually moving eastwards. Therefore, rain intensity over both the states is expected to reduce within the next 24 hours. Though scattered showers are foreseen to show up at one or two interior regions of Tamil Nadu along with a few places over Kerala. However, Chennai is not predicted to see rains.

24 hours hence, light rains are likely to continue at isolated places over Kerala but the weather of Tamil Nadu will become almost clear. Thus, these pre-Monsoon showers are expected to bestow upon these states for another 24 hours, thereafter, clear weather condition is likely to follow over the entire Southern Peninsula resulting in the temperatures to rise.
