As a part of anti-mosquito measures, there was a cleanup drive conducted by the Chennai Corporation in the central region. The drive took place in about 232 slum areas on Tuesday. This drive is being carried out using 297 tricycles and the works are handled by 2,036 workers. The drive took place in areas including Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Kodambakkam, Teynampet, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, to name a few.

Over 7,050 kg of unused items, 6,241 kg of discarded tyres, 120 tonnes of construction debris, and 52,390 kg of garbage were removed by the civic body. Water samples were also collected from these slum areas for testing whether the water is suitable and safe for consumption. Awareness was created among these slum dwellers for preventing the vector borne diseases. It is these slum areas that serve as a breeding ground for the mosquitoes in the city, say officials. They also added that many more similar drives will be conducted in the following weeks.
