There are 538 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. Counselling was held to fill up the seats under the government quota. Now the counselling is over and the students will be joining the new colleges. Hence there will be chances of senior students ragging them.   In this regard a letter consisting of guidelines to prevent ragging has been sent to all engineering colleges.

·         Every college should constitute a Ragging Prevention Committee. The Committee should consist of professors.

·         Ragging should be monitored in the hostels.

·         The professors should keenly watch that whether students are ragged during college hours.

·         A drop box should be kept in colleges to complaint about ragging. Every day the Principal should open the box. It is better even if he sees two times a day.

·         If any student indulges in ragging, a complaint should be made to the Principal or in the college office. At any cost the complainant name should not be revealed.

·         Students involved in ragging will be suspended immediately. After an enquiry, if it proved the student will be permanently removed from the college. Apart from this they will have to pay a penalty of Rs 2 Lakhs 50 thousands and also undergo two years imprisonment.

·         Students involved in ragging who has been removed from the college will not be admitted in any other colleges. Hence new students need not worry about ragging.
