AZIM PREMJI TRUST TO PROMOTE AND IMPROVE EDUCATION IN RURAL INDIA.

Azim Premji, Chairman Wipro has announced that  8.7 % of his shares held in WIPRO to a newly formed Azim Premji Foundation on 7th December,10 , to fund the educational activities of the trust. It is 213 million shares worth about Rs 8846 Crores. Azim Premji Foundation is a public charitable trust, whose objective is to promote educational facilities in rural India. Premji will continue to retain the voting rights and the shares would still under ‘Promoter’s Holding’

Azim Premji in an interview said, while talking about the transfer, that He would be completely committed to supporting the larger ambition of creating the required social change. He also said that he believed that good education was crucial to building a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society and said that he wanted to contribute significantly towards improvement of education in India, and through that towards building a better society. 

Apart from this he had earlier transferred Rs 700 Crores to Azim Premji Foundation.
