36th National Competition for Young Managers

Chennai, July 2010 :  Team TCS represented by Deepthi Aravind, Sandeep Bhat and Ashish Shetty won the keenly contested South Zone Regional Finals of the 36th National Competition for Young Managers in Chennai yesterday. Team Robert Bosch represented by A S NAgesh, Sandeep Kamat and Sudhindra Bharath were declared the runners-up in the contest that witnessed 44 teams participating from reputed corporates such as TCS, Robert Bosch, Larsen & Toubro, Madura Garments, Rajshree Cements, HINDALCO, Britannia, Infosys, Tata Blue Scope, Tata Projects  and even public sector enterprises such as NTPC and Bank of Maharashtra. 

Speaking before the declaration of results, Prof P T Srinivasan, HOD, Dept. of Management Studies, University of Madras declared that the contest had evoked very high standards from participants and that it had been a tough job to shortlist and decide the winners as also the runners-up. A transparent system of evaluation had been put in place with 100 marks each for the written report and the oral presentations. The written reports had further been stratified on the characteristics of presentation and format of the report, originality and creative thinking, accuracy of content and extent of research. The oral presentation was graded on the basis of clarity and substance of the presentation, ability to respond to queries from the jury, team work in presentation and contribution to effective managerial thinking and performance. 

The panel of jury comprised of Prof. P T Srinivasan, HOD, Dept of Management Studies, University of Madras, Ms Vijayalakshmi Shankar, Head Quality & Business Assurance, Steria, Mr Aloysius Sahayaraj, AGM, Poclain Hydraulics, Mr Balasubramanian, director in several leading private companies and Mr Chandrasekhar Pandyan, Knowledge Management Innovation Specialist and Business Evangelist. 

Speaking at the valedictory function of the 2-day competition, Mr Ranganath N K, President, Madras Management Association and MD, Grundfos Pumps India stated learning was a continuous affair and that most distinguished corporate chieftains were at work constantly to learn by the day. Dynamic economic surges coupled with intense competitive pressures require the CEO to learn continuously from the market and their customers he stated. 

Speaking at the function, Ms Anuradha Parakkat, Director Student Affairs, SRM University recalled with pride that her team had won the south zone regionals way back in 1985 and it was nostalgic for her to participate in this event. Ms Anuradha Parakkkat went on to add that the business was not looking to rocket science and drastic changes even simple every day chores if looked at from different perspectives could lead to more effective and efficient responses for organizations, she declared.
