NEW PROGRAMME FOR DEVELOPING FOREST LANDS: JAIRAM RAMESH
Jairam Ramesh , the Minister for Environment and Forests while speaking in a meeting at M S Swaminathan Research Foundation , he said that improvement of quality of forests in fight against climate change would be a priority . The forest officials when elaborated o this that the programme is named as Accelerated Restoration and Rejuvenation of Forests and that it would be on the line of Tamilnadu Afforestation programme [TAP} . Later the Minister spoke to media person at the Chennai airport. He said that Government was contemplating introducing new programme for the development of forest lands. He said that this would be a part of afforestation programmes they already have. He was explaining that more than 40% of forest lands get degraded .It is important that quality of forest lands are improved and that government had taken steps to greening more than three million hectares. Part of these programmes will be funded through Mission Green India and will be implemented through NGO s in each state.
