St.Thomas Mount is a small
hillock situated south of Chennai, where St. Thomas
- the Apostle of Jesus, preached Christianity. It is
interesting to note that the bleeding cross said to
be carved in stone by St. Thomas was found here and
installed at the altar of the Church of ’Our Lady of
expectation’. The mysterious blood stains on the
bleeding cross remain for years even after
deliberate scrubbing and the wear and tear of
centuries. The Church also holds a fascinating
painting of Holy Mother and Infant Jesus said to
have been painted by the apostle St.Thomas himself
during 1st century AD.
