A recent analytical report from the central government establishes that there is an excess of insecticides applied on several food products.

Regular research is undertaken by the National Insecticide Monitoring Scheme to check the insecticide level on the vegetables, fruits, rice, and wheat which brings out regular annual reports from the year 2005.

The report for the year 2013-14 has now been released.

Food items/products were procured from different parts in the country and tested in 25 laboratories.

Out of the 16790 samples tested, 509 items contained higher level of insecticide more that levels approved by FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India).

However, the insecticide administered on meat, milk & groundwater did not exceed the permitted level.

It was established that the insecticide level was more on the vegetables grown during the rainy season after Summer & Winter.
