Chennai`s Metro Rail Phase 2 project has received a major boost as the Coastal Regulation Zone Authority has given approval for the Madhavaram to Siruseri Sipcot route.

This Phase 2 metro project project will cover a distance of 118.9 km and cost Rs 63,246 crore. The project includes the construction of three long-distance routes, covering a distance of 45.8 km from Madhavaram to Siruseri Chipgat, 26.1 km from Lighthouse to Poonamallee , and 47 km from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur.

One of the most exciting aspects of this project is the deep metro station planned for Mylapore. This station will have three platforms and serve as the interchange station for Line 3 and Line 4. The station will be located 35 meters below ground with four levels, and will feature four tunnel boring machines operating at different levels.

Permission for this has been granted by the Coastal Regulatory Zone Authority, authorizing work on the Madhavaram - Siruseri Sipcot route, covering a distance of 45.8 km. Within this corridor, there will be 20 elevated rail stations and 30 underground rail stations.

The project will involve extensive work in areas such as Mylapore (Thirumailai), Indira Nagar, Taramani, Buckingham Canal, and Adyar rivers. A significant portion of this work will take place in the Coastal Regulatory Zone, with the Chennai Metro Rail Company having applied for permission to carry out work in this area.

This approval by the Coastal Regulatory Zone Authority marks a major milestone for the Chennai Metro Rail Phase 2 project, and paves the way for the construction of one of India`s most ambitious metro rail networks.
