Light at the end of the tunnel for Porur flyover

Posted on: 19/Mar/2013 12:45:12 PM
A contractor to complete the unfinished Porur flyover may be finalized by the end of the month, giving hope to people living in the area after nearly 2 years. The work for the flyover was handed over to Chennai Metro Water and Sewerage Board by the Highways Department after there was a problem with pipes that were laid on Mount Road that hindered the building of the pillars for the flyover. This was in 2011. Metro Water has now handed the project back to the Highways Department after they could not finalise a contractor.

A Highways Department official said, They (Metro Water) had made the tender call thrice. They have failed all three times to finalise the contractor. Now, we are expecting to get this done by the end of this month. At this moment we are not expecting any more delays. But something could come up in the future. For instance, we can execute the contract only if the Finance Department approves it. If it doesnt, then we will be in for more delays.
