Dos and Donts on the special occasion of Mahasivarathri today (4th March)

Posted on: 04/Mar/2019 12:20:21 PM
By performing prayers to Lord Siva on the 3rd period of the holy Mahasivarathri Day, even the most grievous sins committed will get removed.

The legendary explanation is that Lord Siva, is magnanimous on this holy day, ready to accept even things which are rejected and condemned by Him, pardon all such sins committed by His devotee and offers His Blessings! So, the 3rd period on the Mahasivarathri day assumes the grandest significance!

Now, the things to do on this occasion

On the eve of the Mahasivarathri day, observe one day penance by eating only once throughout the day. Avoid all pleasurable things on this day!  The next day, being the holy Mahasivarathri Day, get up early morning, take a bath and perform all the poojas and prayers to be performed in the in the house and then visit Lord Siva’s temple, take a Lord Darshan and pray.

The Don’ts

While in the temple, remember not to fall flat and pray in any sanctum sanctorums except the main tree flagpole in the temple!

In a similar trend do not take any anticlockwise ‘pradakshan’ (walking around the sanctum sanctorum while praying)!

Do not cross the space between the Lord and His Carriage kept in the His front!

Do not remove threads from your clothes and offer in front of the Lord Chandikeswarar!

Gents must pray by folding their hands above their heads and pray. Ladies must keep their hands folded in front of their chests and pray!
