Mahasivarathri today (4th March) - Special prayers in all temples of Lord Siva

Today (Monday, 4th March), is the occasion of the holy Mahasivarathri, special prayers are being performed in all the temples dedicated to Lord Siva right from the early morning.

Tens of thousands of devotees are participating in the above special poojas/prayers.

Though Sivarathri occurs every month, the Sivarathri that occurs on the Tamil calendar month of Masi is celebrated as ‘Mahasivarathri’. So, on this special holy occasion, special prayers/poojas are being conducted in all the temples of Lord Siva right from the early morning today (4th March).

In Tamil Nadu, there are 5 temples dedicated to Lord Siva where he represents the 5 basic nature elements in Thiruvannamalai, Chidambaram, etc., and the Chennai Mylapore temple of Lord Kapaleeswarar. In these special temples as well as other Lord Siva temples, ‘4 Jama Poojas’ are being performed. Tens of thousands of devotees are participating.

As for the northern states of India, Mahasivarathri is being celebrated in a grand manner in several famous temples including Kasi Viswanathar Temple in Kasi, Lord Thirumbageswarar temple in Nasik, Maharashtra, the Lord Siva Temple located in Raipur, Chattisgarh, the Lord Siva temple in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, and the Lord Gowrishankar temple in Delhi.
