At Central station in Chennai, Indian tricolor flag flies at 100 ft high

People going to Central railway station in Chennai would be surprised by this. The news is one of the tallest flag masts in the Chennai city has been installed by the southern railway at the popular Chennai Central railway station.

On Friday, 15th February 2019, general manager of southern railways, Mr. Kulshrestha, grabbed many eyeballs when he inaugurated the 100 foot flag masts. It was pointed out by a senior official belonging to southern railway that the flag mast that is located in the front of the entrance to the Central railway station was made of galvanized iron pipes and Rs 15 lakhs was spent on this. The galvanized iron pipes weigh around 2 tonnes. Based on the prevailing wind force and direction, the position of the flag mast was chosen.

As per the sources it is clear that both cotton as well as polyester were used to make the 60 ft wide flag of 9.5 kg weight. The point is both manually as well as electronically the flag could be hoisted. It is brought out that as per the order from railways ministry such monumental flags are planned for installation at 75 major railway stations. Important piece of information is in southern railways such flags were provided in Coimbatore, Madurai, Trivandrum, Ernakulam south, Kozhikode etc and soon Chennai Egmore and Thrissur would be provided with the national flag. The superb news is big national flag has been provided at the Signal and Telecommunication workshop at Podannur.

For the staffs belonging to southern railway, general manager Mr. Kulshrestha had released the updated ‘General Rules’ and this has caught the attention of many now. The point is this book is the most important rule book on the train operations used by every category of traffic, mechanical, electrical, signal and telecommunications. The book is also for safety staffs for safe operation of the trains.
