Many people get affected by various types of health issues these days and go to the doctors to get treated. The demand for the doctors is always increasing. It is known that by increasing the number of undergraduate medical seats more number of students could study medicine. It is now revealed that the government as well as private medical institutions have applied for atleast 950 more medical seats for the year 2019. This is now considered as an attempt to increase the number of undergraduate medical seats in the state of TN. The point to be noted is this includes 345 MBBS seats in government based medical colleges.

Important piece of news is DME had submitted its final compliance report after 2 rounds of inspections. It is now expecting letter of permission from the center to start a government medical college in Karur in the year 2019 and this college would be offering as many as 150 seats for the students.

According to director of medical education, Dr. Edwin Joe, total number of government medical colleges in TN would be 23 and TN has got one of the maximum numbers of medical colleges in the government sector. He then spoke about how in the coming years the seats in the present medical colleges would be increased atleast to 250. He hinted about starting new medical colleges in all the districts in TN.

Dr. Edwin Joe then explained about how in this year TN has applied for 895 more seats at Madurai government medical college and 100 seats in TIrunelveli government medical college. It must be noted that the inspectors had asked the administrators of Tirunelveli medical college to rectify certain infrastructural inadequacies.

Essentiality certificates are very important and these are compulsory certificates that are handed over to the center. It is now said that atleast 4 private medical colleges that are planning atleast 150 seats each have asked the state for the above mentioned essentiality certificate. It was pointed out by some educationists and activists that the state should enforce stringent laws that would permit them to take over the administration when the management announced the closure.
