On Tuesday, a PIL filed by a petitioner named Vembu came up for hearing. The division of bench comprising of Justice Manikumar and Justice Subramaniam Prasad dismissed the PIL. It is worth mentioning that some time back union ministry of information and broadcasting passed a circular and it stated that playing national anthem was mandatory. It was revealed by the petitioner Vembu that the union ministry has issued appropriate circular to all state and union government departments about playing the national anthem at all the state functions in which prime minister, president, chief minister, governor also participated.

The petitioner Vembu alleged that neither Tamil Thai vaazhthu nor national anthem was played in the beginning or end of the function on 27th of January. The function had Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi as chief guest plus there were also other important personalities like governor, chief minister and deputy chief minister.

Later Vembu pointed out that national anthem was not played in a function on 10th February also.
