One lakh concrete houses to be constructed for those affected by cyclone Gaja in TN

Cyclone Gaja has destroyed many parts in the state of Tamil Nadu recently is well known. Many people have become homeless now. The good news is on Wednesday, 27th November 2018, state government had announced that it would help the people who had lost their huts in the cyclone Gaja that thrashed the coastal districts of TN. The state government said that it would build 1 lakh concrete houses for these people to replace their huts.

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. E. Palaniswamy, visited the cyclone hit places on Wednesday. He later informed that the state government would construct as many as one lakh concrete houses for those who had lost their hutments in many cyclone affected areas in TN. After visiting the Nagapattinam district in TN, the chief minister spoke about how the people belonging to this district have been affected badly by the cyclone Gaja. It is well known that many coconut plantations in these places got destroyed due to cyclone Gaja. Now chief minister assured that government would provide its support for high-tech cultivation of plantations including coconut etc.

One important point is 111,132 houses were damaged in the district and out of these as many as 27,896 were fully destroyed, 22,274 houses were damaged partially and 11,112 pucca houses were also damaged. Not only houses as many as 209,998cattles were also destroyed in the recent cyclone. It is shocking to note that as many as 10129 goats plus 804 cows, 557 calves and 9508 chickens perished in the cyclone. As many as 857 fishing boats were totally damaged and 1671 boats were damaged partially. In addition to this as many as 881 mechanised boats and 9 boats were damaged completely. The chief minister later spoke about how a total of 285,467 people belonging to 77391 families were housed in 415 relief camps. Food, drinking water and clothes were given to these people in the camps. It is said that 57460 people have been treated by means of 1068 mobile medical camps.

Chief minister then made his presence felt in Thiruvarur district threw light on how 12 persons have died due to cyclone Gaja in the district and how his government had already disbursed a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to each of the three affected families. It must be noted that in the Thiruvarur district as many as 105,077 huts were destroyed and in these 51,181 huts were damaged completely.
