Ever since it was opened for the public in the year 1985, Vandalur Zoo or Arignar Anna Zoological Park has been one of the famous places for relaxation in Chennai. The news that has come out now is in this annual summer vacation, the Vandalur Zoo is visited by many people and that is a fantastic.

In this modern era when there are many other recreational destinations like theme parks, virtual video game parlours, multiplexes etc, people have regarded this zoo very high and have visited this popular zoo.

The sensational piece of news is this Vandalur Zoo has now got 40 percent more footfalls in this peak summer time. It is important to note that hike in the entertainment tax to the film goers plus increase in the entry fee in the theme parks due to GST has led to many people coming to this famous zoo in Chennai. It is now revealed that this 40 % increase in the visitors is all time record and it has never happened in the past. The ticket collections during the weekends are around Rs 9 lakh to Rs 12 lakh and that is remarkable. This has been confirmed by the foresters in this zoo.

Usually on the Pongal festival holidays many people visit this zoo in Vandalur but it is now revealed that on last Sunday about 23,500 visitors visited this zoo and huge amount of Rs 12 lakhs was collected. This is now the highest ever collections recorded in a single day.

One important piece of information is in this month of May more than 20 % who visited this zoo were school students and another 20 % who visited this zoo were kids below the age of 5. The good news is for the sake of people visiting this zoo in this summer vacations the zoo would remain open on all the days in this month. The overall sales of eateries inside the zoo have shot up because of many people visiting the zoo now.

Night rounds plus cycle patrols are now introduced so that crowd could be controlled and animals are safe. For the sake of funds for conservation and for research activities, this Vandalur zoo has sought the help of the Central Zoo Authority.

It is now said that visiting this Vandalur Zoo with family would cost very less when compared to going out with family for a movie.
