Prospects of mild rain in southern districts of Tamil Nadu

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects of mild rains only in the southern districts of the state.

Due to the formation of a low-pressure zone over the region of the bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean, it has been raining in the last 1 week in the southern coastal districts and the interior south districts of the state.

In this situation, the Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects of mild rain in a few places in the southern districts of the state today (16th April) and tomorrow (17th April).

As there is a depression zone formed over the Lakhdiv Islands, Indian Ocean, and the southwest region of the Kanyakumari region, it has been warned that strong winds will blow in the southern coastal areas.

With the onset of summer and in progress, the southwest monsoon rainy season is scheduled to start by the 1st June.

The last 3 years before 2017, the rains from the southwest monsoon season has been lesser than average.

In the year 2017, the southwest monsoon season rains were normal and 80% as per average. The Indian Weather Bureau is set to release the 1st Phase of the long-term estimate of the expectations of the coming southwest monsoon season today (Monday, 16th April).
