The state of Tamil Nadu has been recording pre Monsoon showers for the past few days. In fact, during the past day, many districts received light to moderate with isolated heavy spells.

In the last 24 hours from 8: 30 am on Friday, Vellore recorded heavy rain to the tune of 40 mm, Cuddalore 26 mm, Salem 25 mm. In the same time frame, Dharmapuri recorded light rain to the tune of 6 mm, Pamban 5.6 mm, Tondi 2.2 and Kodaikanal 1.8 mm.

These rains can be attributed to an anti-cyclone feature prevailing over Southwest Bay of Bengal which brought moisture over Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas. Another trough or wind discontinuity which was extending from South Tamil Nadu up to South Coastal Odisha across the state and Andhra Pradesh was responsible for the showers. As per Skymet Weather, this weather phenomenon is expected to shift further towards the east.

As per weathermen, the South Coast stations of the state are likely to receive more rains in comparison to the northern parts during the next 24 hours. However, the intensity would light with isolated moderate only over South Tamil Nadu also. In fact, the intensity of rain will further reduce after 24 hours and the clear would clear up.

Places such as Puducherry, Coonoor, Udamangalam, Salem, Coimbatore, Madurai, Dharmapuri, Palaynkottai, Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, and Cuddalore. In fact, the state capital, Chennai is also expected to record light showers. The sky conditions will be mostly partly cloudy to cloudy over Tamil Nadu.

As on March 17, the day temperatures are likely to witness a drop but they would rise gradually as the rainfall activity will reduce. At present, the weather is comfortable over Tamil Nadu, though it will turn warm and humid once again in the upcoming days.
