Superb efforts taken by the Greater Chennai Corporation against Tuberclosis disease

To ensure effective eradication of tuberculosis or TB, Greater Chennai Corporation has associated with a NGO so that the slum population in Chennai could be reached. The main objective behind this is to make TB Free Chennai.

Bidders have been invited by the civic body so that fabrication of its seven vans and converting into MDU or mobile diagnostic units would be achieved. To invite potential suppliers to supply X-ray machines plus other important equipments and these could be fitted with the fabricated vans a separate tender is floated.

The civic body has started ‘TB Free Chennai’ programme so that a dedicated drive to eradicate the disease in the Chennai city. This was confirmed by an official belonging to corporation of Chennai.

USA based Stop TB partnership is a NGO that is involved in serving persons affected with tuberculosis disease. This NGO also ensures high quality diagnosis of this TB, treatment and care for those affected. It is now revealed that corporation of Chennai has joined hands with this NGO and funds would be provided by this NGO in conducting TB Free Chennai campaign.

The official further spoke about how the amount of Rs 3.53 crores would be spent in the fabrication of mobile diagnostic units. He further said that amount of Rs 2.18 crores would be spent on procuring X-ray machines and Rs 1.34 crores on van fabrication. Implementation of the programme would be carried out by Chennai city based ‘Reach Foundation’  

National Institute for Research in Tuberclosis would play crucial role in giving its technical assistance.
