Older TNSTC buses in Tamil Nadu to be replaced by new ones soon

On Thursday 15th March 2018 budget was presented by deputy chief minister Mr. O. Paneerselvam in the assembly and he caught the attention of many.

Deputy Chief Minister Mr Paneerselvam spoke about how the government would infuse Rs 600 crore share capital in the transport corporations.

It is now said that the state government would replace older buses operated by State transport undertakings. Those buses that are more than ten years old would be replaced by new buses.

The deputy chief minister hinted that in this 2018-19 the state government would infuse share capital of Rs 600 crores in state transport undertakings and purchasing and inducting of as many as 3000 new buses would be done.

It is important to note that in the year 2017-18, 2000 new buses were sanctioned and now this proposal to induct 3000 new buses would be superb as the state government would replace all the 4593 buses that have been in use for more than 10 years of time. The main objective behind this is to provide an effective and efficient public transport system.

The deputy chief minister further spoke about how the government had allocated Rs 2717.34 crores for the department of transport. He also threw light on Rs 799.25 crores as subsidy for free bus passes for the students plus senior citizens in Tamil Nadu state.
