In the SQCI rankings in Tamil Nadu, Institute of Child Health in Chennai stands second

This is superb piece of news and ICH or Institute of Child Health and Care in Egmore, Chennai is the cynosure of many eyes now.
It is important to note that this ICH is a popular hospital in Chennai and the neonatal care unit of this hospital is now in second place among sick new born care units or SNCU of all the government based hospitals in Tamil Nadu. Overall performance for the last year was taken into account.
National Health Mission has conducted a survey and it is now revealed that in this ICH, Egmore recorded amazing 82 percent in the treatment and management of newborns. This ICH has got 63 percent according to SQCI rankings and that is superb.
In the year 2017, the state of TN had as many as 1.10 lakh total newborn admissions in as many as 64 SNCU units and this ICH in Chennai recorded 7000 admissions.
Factors such as number of admissions, mortality of low birth babies plus others like mortality and management of low birth babies, optimal utilisation of bed, rational use of antibiotics, inborn birth asphyxia or neonatal asphyxia etc were taken into consideration while the SQCI rankings were given to the hospitals in TN. To analyse and improve the quality of neonatal care these SQCI rankings were given. Neonatal intensive care unit coordinator of the state Dr. Srinivasan expressed his thoughts and said the infant mortality rate in TN has come down from 24 per 1000 live births in the year 2010 to 17 per 1000 live births in the year 2017.
In the year 2016 the death rate out of total admissions was 8.6 percent and this has come down to 6.2 percent in the year 2017.
It is worthy to mention that the neonatal care unit of CMCH or Coimbatore Medical College Hospital was ranked first according to SQCI rankings and this ranking was based on 85 percent rate of survival plus 667 percent score.
Dr. Srinivasan also spoke about how ICH in Egmore, Chennai gets newborns from other private hospitals after late referrals. This ICH also gets newborns with cardiac issues plus rare diseases from the neighbouring districts.
