Prospects of another cyclone over Indian Ocean

Posted on: 12/Mar/2018 12:08:13 PM
There is a development over the Indian Ocean zone for a cyclonic format (like Ockhi storm last year which devastated the South Tamil Nadu coastal areas) to develop. So, the Chennai Meteorological Centre has warned that fishermen should not venture into the sea.

The warning in this regard issued by the director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre:

There is a low-pressure zone developed over the Indian Ocean in the area near Southern Sri Lanka. This is expected to drift towards the northwest direction and then will intensify over the Arabian Sea and develop into a depression zone in the next 24 hours.

Due to this development, strong winds with speeds from 40 kmph to 50 kmph and even 60 kmph at times will blow. Hence, the fishermen in the areas of Kanyakumari coastal areas, Bay of Mannar, and the South Kerala coastal areas are strictly warned not to venture into the sea.
