13-Digit mobile numbers from 1st July

A new system of 13-digit mobile number is set to be introduced from 1st July.
The department of telecommunication has insisted that the customers must be given new 13-digit numbers for their mobile phones in order to provide better safety and security.
As per this, the customers who buy new mobile numbers from 1st July will be given 13-digit numbers. The current users with 10-digit mobile numbers will have to change over to the 13-digit mode from 1st October. The deadline for this conversion from 10-digit to 13-digit is till 31st December.
A senior official from BSNL informed that the activities for introducing 13-digit mobile numbers had started from 8th December last year and are in progress.
