The news now is a dedicated vehicle monitoring centre would be established soon for tracking erring vehicles and this has been planned by the Corporation of Chennai. It must be noted that there were many complaints of garbage compactors and lorries creating many issues like deviating from their routes plus they also avoid the collecting points.

It is well known that GPS enabled VTS or vehicle tracking system has been used by the civic body and these VTS have been useful in tracking the movement of garbage vehicles but the absence of a dedicated monitoring centre was felt. This was confirmed by a source belonging to corporation of Chennai.

Fresh bids have been issued by the civic body for inviting service providers who would be able to operate GPS services in as many as 685 vehicles. It also included 144 HMV compactors.

It is now revealed that bidders must provide MIS or management information reports and creating a web application for accumulating and publishing the date to the present Chennai corporation server. This has been ordered by the corporation of Chennai.

According to the tender document GPS based movement monitoring system is a tool and there are plans by the civic body to establish a monitoring centre for vehicle movement.
